Hello!
We hope you’ve had a good week. You may have had moments of great determination and others where you felt like giving up.
Nicotine is known to create a dependency comparable to that of cocaine: it’s therefore no surprise that you’ll experience highs and lows when you’re trying to quit! The important thing is that you never lose sight of the fact that it is possible to break this dependency. The proof is that thousands and thousands of people have already done it, and so can you! |

Your resources
- The quitting process is different for everyone. Many factors can influence the way you cope with this challenge. Some people are more sensitive to nicotine, and withdrawal can vary in intensity from person to person. What matters is staying in touch with your needs and what you’re going through. Continue to take things one day at a time and avoid looking too far ahead.
- Remember to comply with your pharmacological treatment if you are using one.
- Don’t hesitate to call up your sponsor or teammate when you feel your motivation flagging.
- Every cigarette you don’t smoke is a victory: Be proud of it! Congratulate yourself and treat yourself to rewards.
- To appreciate your achievements for what they are, keep your tally up to date: How many cigarettes have you not smoked? How many minutes, hours and days of success? How much money have you saved? Try out the calculator!
- Repeat the tricks that work well for you and try to understand what helps you stick with it. If you have a relapse, whatever you do, don’t give up the process. Rather, seek to understand the reasons for this step backward and try to find ways to get back on track.

Having Self-Confidence
Succeeding at the projects we undertake is based in large part on feeling capable and self-confident. Quitting smoking is no different. Believing in your ability to tackle this challenge is absolutely essential to success! It’s not a question of denying how hard it is, but rather, believing that the task is not too large.
To boost your self-esteem:
- Try not to be too hard on yourself. Treat yourself as you would your best friend!
- In your diary, make a list of 10 things you have achieved and you’re proud of, regardless of where and when in your life you achieved them. Each time you feel like you can’t live without a cigarette, reread this list to renew your confidence.
